Join the festivities this Saturday on Main Street closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. where live music will be heard resonating from the bandstand accompanying all the offerings of the day from pancakes to oysters. This event is Old Home Day presenting new elements to include the Oyster Tent & Beer Garden and the Newmarket Farmers' Market along with the Main Street Block Party and Faces of Newmarket art exhibit.
The festivities begin with an early morning Pancake Breakfast running from 7 to 9 for $7 at the Community Church at 137 Main Street. The proceeds will be contributed to the Newmarket Food Pantry. The Lamprey Health Care 5K Race begins at 8 a.m. at the Newmarket Community Center on 1 Terrace Drive. The $25 registration fee contributes to the Reach Out and Read Program.
Local vendors displaying their wares will be strung along Main Street adjacent to the bandstand where live music will begin at 10 a.m. to kick off the Main Street Block Party. The Oyster Tent & Beer Garden will open with a $5 admission fee at Schanda Park on Water Street on the bank of the Lamprey River down the hill from the Community Church where fresh oysters harvested from Great Bay and hand crafted beers will be offered for festival enjoyment.
While exploring the new elements of Old Home Day, browse the Newmarket Farmers' Market from 9 to 1 on Zion Hill nestled in the lot between the historic buildings, The Stone Church and the Stone School.
The market, now in its second season, has become a weekly staple where local farmers offer fresh and organic food choices to the community. Seacoast musicians donate their time and talent to perform live for market goers as market goers gather food items for the week.
Art vendors will be present this Saturday selling their creations to raise money for a new roof on the Stone School which houses the Stone School Museumoperated by theNewmarket Historical Society.

Those wishing to use laptops, netbooks or phones to connect to the internet may now do so in downtown Newmarket where WiFi access is available to all. To commemorate this availability, an unveiling event will be held at 1 p.m. at the bandstand.
Faces of Newmarket exhibit opens with an open house and artist reception from 12 to 4 at Ampers& Studio in Rivermoor landing, lower lever. This exhibit features a collection of portraitures in both oil and charcoal by local artist Lindsay Bezich, a UNH fine arts graduate. Sponsored by Lamprey Arts & Culture Alliance, this exhibit runs through September 2nd. Contact Kim Foss at 659-6823 for specific hours. Admission is free, donations are accepted.
